Using the breadth and creativity of art to make a difference in the lives of patients

Since 2015, Music is Medicine created campus chapters in Oklahoma, to raise money for the organization and to use student leadership and talent to epitomize their mission of using music to make a difference in the lives of patients. In August 2018, Music is Medicine became an official division of Katie's Art Project with ties to musicians and hospitals across the United States. The original chapters will now be called KAP campus chapters. This change reflects our mindset that art encompasses more than music, but also dance, painting, literature, and any other form of creative expression. KAP campus chapters mobilizes student artists to build a network of student leaders, volunteers, and ambassadors. These chapters further KAP's mission in three significant ways:

  • Hosting arts-related fundraising events to benefit KAP’s programs (e.g. Music is Medicine)

  •  Designing and implementing art projects at medical facilities in which they volunteer their creative talents to give back to their patient community

  • Using a combination of leadership, creativity, and talents, to bring their local and student communities together to bring awareness to art and medicine scientifically and through volunteerism.

Message from Director of Campus Chapters

Hello Students!

I am so excited that you are interested in taking the initiative to start a campus chapter at your college or university. I will help you get started, be your mentor/advisor as you come across trials, keep track of your progress, and be your number one advocate; as you use your creativity and leadership to inspire the people in your community with your goals. My best piece of advice is that this will take trial and error, determination, and the ability to deal with both trials and triumphs. Be inspired by the small impact you make, even if at first you do not reach your biggest goals! Leadership, passion, teamwork, and punctual communication are traits I value. As a student leader of KAP Campus Chapters, you will build a community of friends and leadership skills. I am here to encourage and help you when you need it.
